Top 10 stories of 2025: No. 8: Eight Black airport shuttle shutdown (timescall.com) — Boulder- and Longmont-area travelers were left scrambling when Eight Black’s airport shuttles abruptly shut down in June, stranding customers with unused vouchers and canceled rides to DIA. Months later, residents are still seeking refunds and answers as regulators and the Better Business Bureau outline limited options for recourse. 
2. Boulder County holiday bummers: A soon-to-be porky pig, and other bad holiday gifts (coloradohometownweekly.com) — Boulder County residents are sharing the holiday gifts they still can’t forget, from a “mini” pet pig that grew to 250 pounds to wildly impractical car parts and tone-deaf gym memberships. Their stories double as a playful reminder to know your recipient before you wrap that next big surprise.
3. Video Prizes for Odor Plumes and Quantum Imposters (aps.org) — Researchers at the University of Colorado Boulder helped win a national fluid-dynamics video prize by visualizing how chaotic breezes twist and fold odor plumes, revealing how scents travel through the air. Their high-resolution outdoor measurements could improve understanding of how insects track flowers and may aid technologies like gas-leak or explosive detection. Other award-winning videos explored raindrop-like droplets and quantum-mimicking bouncing beads.
4. Lindstedt to Finish Winter's Term; 2025 Was Bad for Public Lands; No More Period Product Taxes in Boulder County (kgnu.org) — Boulder County residents will stop paying the county’s 1.335% sales tax on period products and diapers starting Jan. 1, thanks in part to advocacy from a CU Boulder student group. The piece also recaps a tough year for national public lands policy and highlights CU Boulder expertise in tense Colorado River water negotiations.
