Med-Delivery Robot Rolled Out By Broomfield Company

The Relay robot can open hospital doors, ride elevators and deliver medications and lab samples throughout hospitals, the company said.

BROOMFIELD, CO — Broomfield-based Swisslog Healthcare has rolled out a robot to pick up and deliver medications and lab specimens in hospitals, the company announced.

As first reported in BizWest, the company partnered with San Jose, California-based Savioke Inc., the company announced the launch of the Relay ASR robot Monday.

“Today’s healthcare environment challenges nurses, lab techs, and pharmacists to decide how they spend their valuable time,” Cory Kwarta, North America president of Swisslog Healthcare, said in a press release. “The Relay ASR is an advanced delivery technology helping hospitals optimize labor productivity and more effectively allocate resources to ensure patients get the care they need when they need it.”

Watch the video to see the robot operating elevators and doors. According to the company, the machine can travel through busy public spaces delivering "medicines, blood, lab specimens, snacks and documents 24 hours a day."

It has already been deployed in hospitals in Minnesota and elsewhere in the U.S. and Europe, the company said.

The company specializes in "systems for material transport and supply-chain management for health-care systems," according to BizWest. Broomfield is the U.S. headquarters for the Switzerland-based company, which employs around 2,300 workers worldwide.
