Multiple LGBTQ+ centers in Colorado Springs close after potential ‘targeted security threat' (krdo.com) — Several LGBTQ+ centers in Colorado Springs briefly closed this week after receiving word of a possible targeted security threat, prompting a CSPD investigation. Inside Out Youth Services has since reopened with full-time security, while Prism Community Collective remains closed for now but continues offering virtual support, especially for those affected by the Club Q tragedy.
   

2. Colorado Springs could see millions in defense spending; helicopter brigade may be preserved (gazette.com) — Colorado Springs military families and defense workers could see big changes as a new federal defense bill advances, including a 3.8% troop pay raise and major investments at Fort Carson, Cheyenne Mountain, and Schriever. The legislation aims to preserve a local helicopter company that supports search and rescue, upgrade missile defense and GPS systems run from area bases, and improve food and housing conditions for service members.
   

3. Colorado Springs Downtown Partnership names new CEO (cpr.org) — Downtown Colorado Springs is getting new permanent leadership as Chelsea Gondeck takes over as CEO of Downtown Partnership on January 1. Under her interim tenure, the group launched a Clean and Safe program tackling homelessness, safety, and cleanliness, recently boosted by $700,000 in city funding from the new recreational marijuana sales tax.
   

4. Tejon Street reopens with wider sidewalks and more outdoor dining space after 20-month construction (koaa.com) — Downtown’s Tejon Street is fully back open after 20 months of construction, with wider sidewalks, more outdoor dining, and better access to secure parking garages in Colorado Springs. Business owners say foot traffic is already picking up, and the city plans to finish new streetlights soon, with additional crosswalk upgrades coming in spring 2025.
   

5. Display at COS Airport celebrates 70 years of NORAD Tracks Santa (fox21news.com) — If you’re flying out of Colorado Springs Airport, you can catch a special display celebrating 70 years of NORAD’s Santa-tracking tradition, rooted right here in the Pikes Peak region. Organized by the Pikes Peak Military Affairs Council, the exhibit highlights the program’s origins and ongoing volunteer effort, which still operates from Peterson Space Force Base each Christmas Eve.
