Here are the top stories in Denver today:

  1. One Denver mom is called out for being a "super woman." Moms are unsung heroes who do a lot for everyone around them. While we try to celebrate them throughout the year, Mother's Day provides an excellent opportunity to shout it from the rooftops and share it on Patch: Moms rock! (Patch)
  2. Efforts are underway to install bike lanes with increased protection along Blake and Market Streets. New protected bike lanes are being installed on Blake Street and Market Street, covering the area from Cherry Creek Trail to Broadway. Additionally, the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI) is incorporating transit-only lanes for buses on Blake Street from 14th to 18th Streets and Market Street from 14th to 17th Streets. (Denverite)
  3. Is it any surprise to learn that Denver's air quality is getting worse? The Environmental Protection Agency's latest data, shows that air quality in the Denver metro area has worsened significantly since 2015. The agency downgraded the Front Range from a "serious" to a "severe" violator of federal ozone standards, and state health officials are already preparing to have to issue pollution alerts for the Front Range this summer. (Axios)
  4. Colfax business owners are wrestling with the state of the street. Colfax is the longest commercial street in America with a rich history dating back to the city's inception. However, in recent years, its condition has deteriorated significantly. Anyone who has recently traveled down Colfax near downtown would likely have noticed the abundance of abandoned buildings that once housed businesses and restaurants. (303)
