Here are the top three stories today in Denver:
- On Monday, the Denver City Council approved a new environmentally-friendly waste collection program. Effective 2023, residents in the City and County of Denver will be charged a fee for trash pickup, which will vary based on size. Recycling and compost pickup, which will take place weekly instead of biweekly, will no longer have a fee. The purpose of the program is to reduce Denver's landfill contributions and greenhouse gas emissions. (Denver Patch)
- A new pay-for-success housing program aims to support people in Denver experiencing chronic homelessness. The new pay-for-success program, announced on Wednesday, will provide supportive housing with wraparound services for at least 125 individuals. The goal of the project is to reduce jail time and emergency federal health care expenditures while also building housing stability. (FOX 31 Denver)
- The U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Colorado has indicted a couple for wire and bank fraud, as well as money laundering. 65-year-old Ronald Philip Wallace and 67-year-old Stace Yater Wallace stand accused of soliciting nearly $1.5 million to market and produce CBD products by "using misleading and false information." Both are also charged with illegally obtaining over $200,000 in COVID-19 PPP funds by falsifying information on loan applications. (FOX 31 Denver)
