Colorado Newsline Wins 4 Awards In Colorado Press Association Contest

Colorado Newsline earned four awards in the 2021 Colorado Press Association Better News Media Contest, the results of which were announced during a ceremony Saturday at the Colorado Press Association’s annual convention.

Former Newsline reporter Moe Clark won three of the awards. Senior reporter Chase Woodruff won the fourth award.

Newsline launched in July 2020. It became eligible for CPA membership in July 2021 and was accepted for membership the following month. The 2021 CPA contest was the first for which Newsline could submit entries.

This is what Newsline’s journalists won:

First place, best public service project, for “Guide: What you need to know about evictions in Colorado right now,” also published in Spanish, “Guía: Qué necesitas saber sobre los desalojos en Colorado en este momento.”

First place, best series or sustained coverage, for Clark’s reporting on housing, such as “Colorado’s housing crisis touches every inch of the state. Lawmakers hope $400 million will help.”

Second place, best feature story, for “Colorado’s Second Chance Center is redefining what success looks like after incarceration.”

Second place, best series or sustained coverage, for “Smokescreen,” a four-part Newsline investigation into a culture of secrecy and political meddling at Colorado’s Air Pollution Control Division.

Earlier this year, Colorado Newsline took home 15 awards, including nine for first place, in the Society of Professional Journalists Colorado Pro Chapter’s 2022 Top of the Rockies contest.
