Confluence Magazine Shuts Down In Denver
The 10-year old online magazine that covered entrepreneurship, innovation and real estate in Denver abruptly closed Wednesday.

DENVER, CO – Denver-based Confluence magazine ceased publication Wednesday with an email announcement to supporters. The decade-old publication covered entrepreneurship, innovation, real estate and policy.
Detroit-based parent company Issue Media Group did not immediately return calls for comment. The company just received a $100,000 grant from a consortium to build engagement journalism made up of The News Integrity Initiative, Democracy Fund, the Knight Foundation and the Lenfest Institute for Journalism, Poynter reported.
In an un-bylined story announcing the magazine would cease publication, the author hinted at financial forces that are plaguing all news media in this era:

"Let’s just say the news business is complicated these days, and Confluence’s model of enhancing traditional media revenue from advertising with underwriting support for independent journalism from organizations, agencies and businesses with a stake in the community worked for a while in Denver, and then it didn’t."
Editor Ray Rinaldi, a former Denver Post reporter, directed questions to Issue Media Group CEO Brian Boyle, who did not immediately return messages for comment.

The final issue is a greatest-hits of the most impactful and popular stories, the editors said.
"Through hundreds of stories, talented journalists delved into the complex issues that have abounded during an unprecedented era of change, focusing on the people, nonprofits and civic institutions tending to the ideals of equity, the environment, wellness and innovation."
