Denver Protest Shooting Suspect Facing 2nd Degree Murder Charge

Denver's District Attorney said the case against Matthew Dolloff will be filed on Monday.

DENVER — Matthew Dolloff, the security guard accused of shooting a man during a protest on Oct. 10, will be charged with murder in the second degree, Denver District Attorney Beth McCann announced on Thursday.

In a release, McCann said the case against Dolloff will be filed in Denver District Court on Monday.

Murder in the second degree carries a mandatory prison sentence between 16 and 48 years, according to the release.

Newsweek reports Dolloff had been hired to protect local news reporters during dueling "Patriot Muster" and "BLM-Antifa Soup Drive" protests in Denver. Police allege he fatally shot 49-year-old Lee Keltner with a semiautomatic handgun after Dolloff was sprayed with pepper spray during an argument.

No other information about Dolloff's impending charges was immediately available.
