Denver Weather: Arctic Air Blasts Metro Area, Light Snow To Fall

A hazardous weather outlook issued Monday said light snow will lead to slick roads in the Denver area before an Arctic air mass arrives.

DENVER, CO — A hazardous weather outlook issued Monday said light snow will lead to slick roads in the Denver area, and then an Arctic air mass will plunge temperatures mid-week to below zero.

The National Weather Service said less than an inch of snow was expected in the Denver metro Monday, but snow was expected to develop Monday afternoon at higher elevations to the south of Interstate 70 and the Palmer Divide. Up to 3 inches of snow was expected there, though some places could see up to 5 inches of snow.

Some of that snow was expected to move off the higher terrain and onto the plains, mainly in and south of the Denver metro.

"Slick and snow covered roads could create poor travel conditions in these areas," the weather service said.

A bitter cold was expected to arrive late Wednesday and into Thursday as Arctic air blasts the state and send temperatures below zero Wednesday night and Thursday night.
