📰 News we're reading

1. DPS Foundation's free educator housing program helps teacher retention (denver7.com) — A pilot program from the Denver Public Schools Foundation is giving 15 educators a year of free housing, and 93% have chosen to stay with DPS. Leaders say easing housing costs for early-career teachers in Denver boosts retention, reduces stress, and could help keep hard-to-fill positions staffed if more developers join in.

2. Denver Summit FC and neighborhood groups create a Community Benefits Agreement (denver7.com) — A new Community Benefits Agreement spells out how Denver Summit FC will invest in Denver neighborhoods as it pursues a stadium at Santa Fe Yards, including $400,000 upfront and $300,000 annually for a community fund. Local business and neighborhood leaders say the deal boosts anti-displacement efforts, creates opportunities for nearby merchants, and could shape expectations for future projects like a new Broncos stadium.

3. Chamber of Commerce to conduct independent review after Denverite reporting on leadership concerns (denverite.com) — Denver’s powerful Metro Chamber of Commerce is launching an independent, third-party review after reports of high staff turnover and complaints about workplace culture under CEO J.J. Ament. The board says it still backs Ament but wants outside scrutiny of policies, processes, and leadership as former employees and prominent figures, including ex-mayor Wellington Webb, raise concerns about the organization’s direction and impact on Denver’s business community.

4. One passion is playing the piano. Another is piloting big jets for United Airlines. He does both at DIA (denver7.com) — At Denver International Airport, United Airlines captain Beau Brant squeezes in an impromptu piano concert on Concourse B before piloting his flight to San Diego. Travelers and crew pause to listen, describing a rare moment of calm and connection in one of Denver’s busiest public spaces as Brant blends his passion for flying with his love of music.

5. Immigration activist Jeanette Vizguerra seeks release after 9 months in ICE detention (9news.com) — An immigration activist who once took sanctuary in a Denver church is seeking release after nine months in ICE detention in nearby Aurora, with a bond hearing set for Thursday morning. She was arrested outside her Denver workplace in March, and her lawyers argue the detention is retaliation for her years of immigrant-rights activism rather than past immigration violations.
