DENVER, CO — A hazardous weather outlook was issued Monday for Denver and the surrounding metro area with winds of up to 80 mph possible and snow in the forecast, as well as frigid temperatures.

The National Weather Service issued the dangerous weather outlook Monday morning for northeast and north-central Colorado. Strong winds were expected to develop in the Front Range and foothills late Monday morning and afternoon, with the strongest winds expected in the foothills with gusts of up to 80 mph. Over the northeast plains, the weather service forecasted it will be windy Monday afternoon and evening with gusts up to 45 mph, increasing fire danger.

A high-wind warning was in effect for the foothills.

Furthermore, snow is expected to fall Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday. "Moderate accumulations" will likely affect travel impacts, and bring bone-chilling cold to the region.

"This system will also bring very cold air, with lows possibly falling below zero across much of the plains and wind chills into the negative teens to 20s Wednesday night and Thursday morning," the weather service said.

Arapahoe, Jefferson, Broomfield, Adams, Larimer, Weld, Grand, Jackson, Summit, Gilpin, Clear Creek, Douglas, Park, Elbert, Morgan, Lincoln, Elbert, Washington, Sedgwick and Phillips.
