Here are the top stories in Denver today:
- The two top candidates vying the Denver mayor's seat are headed to a runoff. Just when you thought that election season was over, here we go again. Because no single candidate garnered more than 50 percent of the vote, it appears that two moderate candidates, Kelly Brough and Mike Johnston, will try to convince voters to pick one over the other on June 6. (Gazette)
- Southern Colorado's drought has intensified over the past few months. Approximately 36 percent of Colorado was facing moderate drought conditions, with severe drought affecting approximately 9 percent of the state, primarily near Pueblo. (CBS4)
- The Biden administration is set to provide $585 million towards water projects in the West. Projects in Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, and Washington will receive funding from the 2021 bipartisan infrastructure law. Over the next five years, the funds will pay for water infrastructure projects. (CO Newsline)
- Sniffing out the smelliest place in Denver, at least based on the number of complaints lodged against it. Over the past year, numerous complaints have been lodged against the Purina plant, with many people reporting unpleasant and stronger-than-usual odors. Some individuals even reported that they were unable to remain outdoors due to the foul smell.
According to one complaint, "The stench emanating from the Purina factory has become so unbearable that we can't open our windows or spend time outside." (FOX31)
