Here are the top stories today in Denver:
- Gas prices continue to increase in Colorado. According to the latest figures from AAA Colorado, as of Feb. 20, the average cost of a gallon of gasoline in Colorado is $4.10, which is 69 cents above the national average, an increase of 54 cents in the past month and 75 cents compared to the same time last year. - Airport is looking for feedback on whether or not Pena Boulevard should be widened. The section of the highway closest to the airport has already been widened with $93 million from the city. However, the city is now pausing to conduct additional research and reassess their plans for the remaining part of the corridor. They are seeking input from the public through a series of open houses scheduled for later this month. (Denverite)
- The Denver Art Museum is exhibiting artwork created by indigenous youth. Indigenous youth are preserving their heritage by creating art, and their work is currently showcased at the renowned Denver Art Museum. Among these artists is Sophie Hill, who produces beadwork in her kitchen, bringing to life the lessons that have been passed down through generations. (9News)
- Denver International Airport has one of the highest number of guns seized. Last year, the Transportation Security Administration confiscated 6,542 firearms at airport checkpoints throughout the country, including the weapon in question. With an average of approximately 18 guns per day, this figure represents the highest number of guns seized at U.S. airports to date, with more than 156 at DIA. (Sentinel)
