Here are the top stories today in Denver:

  1. Driver sought in hit-and-run on I-25. Police are searching for a driver of a silver Porsche that is suspected to have been involved in a hit-and-run incident on the side of Interstate 25. The driver of the Porsche allegedly struck two people who were pushing a van on the right shoulder of the highway on Feb. 12. (FOX 31)
  2. The Biden administration has stated that Phil Washington doesn't need a waiver to head the FAA. According to federal law, the FAA administrator must be a civilian, but some Senate Republicans are demanding that that Washington provided a waiver from Congress to serve in the position, having served in the Army from 1976 to 2000. (CO Newsline)
  3. Homeless survey asked them what they most needed. The survey was conducted in Denver in 2022 and targeting individuals experiencing homelessness, who were residing in various conditions such as tents, shelters, or with limited protection from weather conditions. 812 people responded to the survey, which included 24 questions about people's housing experiences, priorities, and desires. (Westword)
  4. Some places in Colorado are more windy than others, here's why. The Venturi Effect is characterized by the compression of air between tall buildings, resulting in strong wind gusts. Similarly, in certain areas of Colorado, the air is compressed between mountain peaks and canyons, which causes a drop in wind pressure as it moves through a more restricted space. This leads to higher wind speeds in some regions in Colorado. (CPR)
  5. Arrests in Downtown for homelessness on the rise. The Downtown Denver Partnership (DDP) reports that since the implementation of the "Together We Will" initiative aimed at enhancing downtown safety, many individuals have been arrested in the downtown area over the past few months. (Denver7)
