Man Pleads Guilty For Shooting Up Denver Police Command Post

Kairo Alejandres-Vizcaino shot out a car window at the police offices in southwest Denver and then eluded officers, prosecutors said.

DENVER, CO – A man accused in May of shooting a semi-automatic handgun into a Denver Police Department command post in the southwest part of the city has pleaded guilty, the Denver County District Attorney's Office said.

Kairo Alejandres-Vizcaino, 22, was originally charged in May with six counts of attempted murder and one count of vehicular eluding. He pleaded guilty Sept. 6 to one count of second-degree attempted murder with a mandatory 25-year prison sentence.

According to police, on May 5, 2018, Alejandres-Vizcaino shot into the command post on South Federal Boulevard and West Arkansas Avenue. Officers were inside when the shots were fired. When officers chased his car, Alejandres-Vizcaino allegedly sped away, running a stop sign and crashing into a police vehicle, after which he was arrested, the DA's office said. Police found the semi-automatic handgun in his car.

Alejandres-Vizcaino was released on $50,000 bond.

A sentencing hearing is scheduled for Oct. 26, the District Attorney's Office said.
