International Day Of The Girl Essay Contest In Denver

DENVER, CO – Get your Girrrl Power on. Even if you're NOT a girl, you can celebrate International Day of the Girl on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2018. The Center for Colorado Women’s History at the Byers-Evans House in Denver will host an essay contest to celebrate the special day for students in grades 3-8.

The idea is to learn about "women who have made a difference in history, so that they can use them as inspiration to create a better tomorrow," the museum said. Three winners will be selected to have Afternoon Tea at the Byers-Evans House, an 1883 restored historic house museum in downtown Denver.

To enter the contest, write a 250 to 500 word essay responding to the following prompt:

“We have many reasons to recognize and thank the women who came before us. We know that they have shown strength and determination in their vision for their community and their country. Their legacy still lives on today. How does their legacy inspire you to create a better future for yourself and your community?”

Essays should be submitted with a parent’s name, email, and student’s grade level, by Friday, September 21, at 4 pm, online at www.historycolorado.org/dayofthegirl or by email to michael.erickson@state.co.us.
