Jail Inmate Allegedly Attacks Denver Sheriff's Deputy

The Denver Sheriff's office said a deputy was attacked with a milk crate and choked Monday, then taken to a hospital.

DENVER, CO – An inmate attacked a sheriff's deputy at Denver jail Monday, and the deputy was taken to a hospital, the sheriff's department said.

The Denver Sheriff's union tweeted about the incident.

"An inmate attacked one of our officers hitting him over the head with a plastic milk crate to the head," the Denver FOP tweeted. "The inmate then began to choke out our officer. If not for several inmates hitting the attacker our officer might be dead."

Denver jail spokeswoman Daria Serna confirmed with KDVR/Fox31 that the deputy had been attacked and sent to Denver Health, "as a precaution."

FOX31's investigative reporter Rob Low interviewed Union President Michael Britton who confirmed the account in the tweet.

No names were released, either for the deputy or the inmate.
