Juvenile Arrested In Denver Shooting Near Middle School
Denver Police took a juvenile male into custody overnight. A DSST Cole Middle School student remains in critical condition.

DENVER, CO – A juvenile has been arrested in connection with Tuesday's shooting near a Denver middle school that left a student in the hospital, police announced Wednesday morning.
Police are holding the unnamed juvenile, who is facing charges of aggravated assault, Denver Police said in a tweet. The injured student remains in critical condition. Police said they would be providing updates later in the morning.
Around 2 p.m., the student was shot outside DSST Cole Middle School (formerly Mitchell Middle School) at 3200 Marion St. The student was rushed to a hospital with critical gunshot wounds.

Police closed off the street and the school, along with Cole High School, took security precautions, including a lockdown at the middle school and a "lockout" at the high school.
The middle school confirmed Tuesday night that the shooting victim was a student and issued a statement saying counseling and "other emotional supports" would be offered to students Wednesday.

"As a community, we will continue the important work of educating our students with safety as our utmost priority," the school posted on Facebook.
Police did not immediately say if the juvenile in custody was another student at Cole.
