Here are the top stories in Denver today:
- Price to lower Denver's speed limits continues to increase. The Vision Zero program is part of the plan to replace speed limit signs in certain neighborhoods — but the cost of the project has increased due to inflation. The initial cost was $1.2 million, but it is now gone up to more than $1.7 million. (CBS4)
- U.S. housing price spike likely caused by remote workers. A recent study reveals that approximately 50 percent of the increase in housing costs can be attributed to remote workers. The COVID-19 pandemic policies, directly or indirectly, have resulted in the highest inflation in the United States in 40 years, particularly in the housing sector. The rise in remote work accounts for more than half of the national 23.8 percent increase in house prices. (KDVR)
- When does Colorado's ski season wrap up in 2023? Although spring officially began yesterday, ski season in Colorado's Rocky Mountains isn't over yet. Many mountains have had a good year of snowfall, with Wolf Creek receiving 420 inches, which is just shy of its average of 430 inches. Some ski areas will start closing in the next few weeks, but several are planning to remain open until at least May. (FOX31)
- Denver's Fair Election Fund pays out another $1,000,000 as part of its final installment for the 2023 municipal election. The campaigns for city council, clerk, auditor, and mayor have received a total of $7,118,105 from the Denver Clerk and Recorder's office's Fair Election Fund. There's still money left over available for any runoffs, which kicks in when no candidate receives 50 percent of the ballots cast. (Denverite)
