  1. Mayoral endorsements rolling in as candidates scramble for votes with less than a month before Denver's runoff election on June 6. Mike Johnston has received endorsements from several former mayoral candidates. While the endorsements may not significantly shift the trajectory of the race, it does boost Johnston's credentials among left-leaning voters. (Denverite)
  2. As migrants continue to flow into Colorado, Denver wrestles with finding a place for them. The City of Denver plans to reactivate its emergency operations center in an effort to provide assistance another influx of migrants that have flooded into the city this week. The Auraria Campus claims that the city has been making "false promises" of assistance as the campus struggled to deal with hundreds of migrants who came to the campus for intake processing seeking places to sleep.   3. Denver seeking solution to the increase in fentanyl overdose deaths. In 2022, there were 453 fatal drug overdose deaths in Denver. Of those, 244 cases, involved fentanyl. As part of the city’s goal to reduce these deaths, Denver formed the Fentanyl Investigations Team within the Denver Police Department, which is set up to investigate all deaths that are fentanyl related.   4. Denver Parks and Recreation bolsters ranger team in an effort to tackle homelessness this summer. Denver has hired 17 new rangers, resulting in the largest team ever assembled by the department. Despite this expansion, their presence might not be immediately apparent, as the team consists of only 45 rangers that are spread across over 200 parks. (7News)
  5. Landlords that aren't licensing their rental units face city fines. Last February, Denver authorities announced their intention to implement the licensing program following the enactment of a new law that mandated all multi-unit rental properties to obtain a license this year. The focus has been on properties with previous public health complaints. (Axios)
