Nearly 100 Injured In Hailstorm That Pummeled Red Rocks Amphitheatre

Seven people were taken to the hospital after attending the theater for a Louis Tomlinson concert Wednesday, fire officials said on Twitter.

DENVER, CO — Nearly 100 people are hurt with injuries ranging from cuts to broken bones following a hailstorm at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison where a Louis Tomlinson concert was scheduled Wednesday night, West Metro Fire Department said on Twitter.

Seven people were taken to local hospitals with injuries that are not life threatening, and a total of 80 to 90 people were treated on scene, officials added.

"Tonight was the scariest night of my life," Twitter user @nikkitbfh wrote Wednesday evening along with a video of people rushing to take cover as they are pelted with hail pellets. " ... I am bleeding and have huge bumps on my head from the hail."

Another user, @anditslou, shared a video of an icy flood pouring down steps near the venue, writing "It was straight out of a horror movie."

Several Twitter users shared photos of their injuries, including limbs covered in welts and cuts.

Initially, Red Rocks Amphitheatre announced that the show, which was expected to begin at 7 p.m., would be delayed. In a subsequent update around 7:35 p.m., the theater announced it had been given the "all-clear" before announcing another weather delay at 8:14 p.m. and finally a postponement at 9:25 p.m.

Tomlinson, a former teen heartthrob from the boyband One Direction, took to Twitter to address fans.

"Devastated about the show tonight, hope everyone’s ok, I’ll be back," he wrote. "Even though we didn’t play the show I felt all of your passion! Sending you all love!"

According to the the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's National Severe Storms Laboratory, hail is a form of precipitation consisting of solid ice that forms inside thunderstorm updrafts. It can damage aircraft, homes and cars, and can be deadly to livestock and people.
