Here are the top three stories today in Denver:
- One person was hospitalized after a shooting near the Capitol. According to police, the shooting took place in the area of Lincoln Street and East Colfax Avenue around 1:00 a.m. on Saturday. The location was near where hundreds had gathered to protest the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. Police said that the shooting had no connection to the protests. (FOX 31 Denver)
- The "Colorado Option" will soon be a reality. The state waiver application gained federal approval on Thursday, signaling the go-ahead for the standardized state health benefits plan. While the option isn't mandated, it will be available through the healthcare exchange in the same way private insurance plans are. Proponents hailed the passage as a success, while opponents warned that the plan would result in higher costs for everyone. (Colorado Newsline)
- Fire crews battled a blaze at a restaurant near Civic Center Park on Saturday. According to Denver Fire, the fire was in a two-story building at 236 West 13th Ave. The breakfast restaurant Dozens is located in the building. A spokesperson from Denver Fire said that their initial investigation shows the fire started in the kitchen and extended to the second floor. (Fox 31)
