United Plane From Minneapolis Evacuated On Runway At DIA

A United Airlines flight evacuated at the Denver International Airport after landing, because of a mechanical issue, United said.

DENVER, CO – A United Airlines flight from Minneapolis to Denver evacuated passengers onto the tarmac to take buses to the gate after encountering mechanical issues around 12:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon, an airline spokesperson confirmed.

Flight 1660 from the Twin Cities landed safely in Denver, said Erin Benson Scharra, United spokesperson, in an email. However the plane "experienced a mechanical issue during taxi," Scharra said.

Passengers used roll-up staircases on the tarmac to exit the plane and boarded buses for the terminal, Scharra said. A bystander watching from the gates tweeted that passengers were evacuating the plane surrounded by fire trucks and buses.
