- City of Denver set to receive $8.6 million to cover costs of hosting migrants. Denver has successfully recouped nearly half the money it has spent on accommodating migrants who arrived from the U.S. border. The city was granted $8.6 million by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, contributing significantly to this recovery. However, despite this progress, local officials express concerns that additional millions more may be needed to offset the incurred expenses. (Denverite)
- Nine-year-old boy that drowned in Boulder Creek identified. Boulder County officials have released information on the identity of the 9-year-old boy who tragically drowned while tubing in Boulder Creek. The boy has been identified as Romeo Alvarez, as confirmed by authorities on Tuesday morning. While an initial examination has taken place, the cause and manner of death are currently pending further investigation. The incident occurred on Sunday during a tubing excursion on Boulder Creek. - Does Colorado's oil producers use more than their fair share of water? In the arid West, which includes four of the nation's top five oil-producing states, water supplies reached unprecedented lows in 2022 as a result of global warming, a prolonged mega-drought spanning 1,200 years, and a surge in population growth. Although a wet winter occurred, it did not uniformly replenish Colorado's eight river basins, with the central and southern regions experiencing reservoir levels as low as 35 percent of their capacity this spring. Can the west support water intensive oil production? (CO Newsline)
- Lakewood Police searching for hit-and-run driver that killed pedestrian. The Lakewood Police Department is seeking assistance in identifying the driver responsible for a fatal hit-and-run incident that claimed the life of a woman. On May 28, at the intersection of West 6th Ave. Frontage Road and Jay Street, a vehicle struck Angela Selvage, a 49-year-old pedestrian. Despite being transported to the hospital, she succumbed to her injuries. (7News)
