AURORA, CO — A school dean at the Aurora West College Preparatory Academy was charged with felony menacing, kidnapping and other charges after three separate incidents in which he threatened and falsely imprisoned a woman, according to the Denver District Attorney.

Tushar Rae, 30, faces charges of felony menacing, felony kidnapping, misdemeanor false imprisonment and misdemeanor prohibited use of a weapon.

The charges stem from a March 1 incident in which Rae was out with school coworkers at a bar after a work function, the arrest affidavit says. Rae, and a woman from the school, went back to his residence on Hannibal Street.

When she wanted to leave, Rae got "depressed" and was "feeling sad for himself." That's when he got a black handgun, the woman alleges. She said he loaded it, pulled back the slide and aimed it right at her chest.

He then aimed to the side and fired one shot next to her, she told police. She ran away and didn't report the incident because "she didn't want Rae to get in trouble" and that "she didn't want Rae to commit suicide." He had told her that it would be her fault if he did so, she claimed, according to the affidavit.

Then, on March 7, she alleges, she was on her way to another work function and stopped by his place because he felt depressed. As she tried to leave, he blocked her from doing so, the affidavit says. Then she went to leave through the garage but he grabbed her arm and dragged her to the couch, she said. She called police and was able to leave when they responded.

Less than a month later, on April 3, Rae texted her a photo of the gun he used on March 1, police said, and told her he was on his way to the school. Sometime after he arrived, she was called into his office.

Police say they've since retrieved a gun from Rae, and that they confirmed it was the one used in the March 1 and April 3 incidents.

Rae closed the door when she arrived and pulled the handgun out, putting it on the counter between the two, she said. "Try and f--- with me ... I don't want to hurt you, I'm going to hurt all the people around you" she accuses him of saying in the affidavit, adding that he threatened to shoot the knee caps of two other school administrators.

Two students then knocked on the office door, the affidavit says, and he put the gun back in his waistband and left the office. The school was then put on lock down. Police spoke with the victim, who told them about the March 1 and 7 incidents.

Police later went to Rae's address where he was taken into custody without incident. He allowed police to search his house and told them where the gun was, the affidavit says.

Rae has bonded out on a surety bond, the affidavit says. His next scheduled court appearance is at 8 a.m. on May 1.
