• Community members raise concerns about the use of Flock Safety Cameras within Durango city limits (ksut.org) — Durango residents are debating the city’s 21 Flock Safety cameras and a mobile trailer that log vehicle movements and share data with hundreds of departments nationwide. Police say the system improves public safety, while a local resident and ACLU advocate raise concerns about data sharing, possible conflicts with Colorado privacy law, and how long Flock can use anonymized information. The police contract runs through September 2027.
   

• Durango school board member to resign (durangoherald.com) — A Durango School District board seat will open soon, as member and state Rep. Katie Stewart plans to resign effective Dec. 31 to focus on her legislative role. The board will declare the vacancy in January and outline how interested District D residents can apply at a Jan. 13 work session at Riverview Elementary.
   

• Opening statements made in Durango motel homicide trial (durangoherald.com) — Jurors in Durango are hearing opening statements in the trial of a local man accused of fatally shooting another man at the Wapiti Lodge in west Durango in 2023. Prosecutors portray the killing as eliminating a romantic rival, while defense attorneys argue he acted as a frightened 20-year-old defending himself from an aggressive trespasser.
