Cat Rescued, No Injuries In Applewood House Fire
A garage fire caused by a space heater jumped to the home's attic. Firefighters initially had trouble getting water from a frozen hydrant.
APPLEWOOD, CO – A space heater left running in a garage was determined to be the cause of an Applewood house fire that caused $400,000 worth of damage in the 14700 block of Garden Road, firefighters said.
All residents were out of the house Tuesday morning and firefighters reported that a family cat was rescued, West Metro Fire Rescue said.
The fire was reported around 9:50 a.m. near West 29th Avenue and Garden Road. West Metro Fire Rescue said the attack on the fire was initially complicated by a frozen fire hydrant.

Roads were temporarily closed near Garden Road and Indiana Street, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said.
