Joe and Ruby Meyer opened Meyer Hardware & Sporting Goods in 1945 on Washington Avenue in Golden, Colorado. It was located at 1103 Arapahoe Street when it closed permanently on September 25, 2021. For the last 45 years Steve Schaefer had been operating this fundamental business just off Golden’s main drag.
“As a teenager, I’d walk across Clear Creek from my junior high school to my family’s hardware store, spending my afternoons assembling bicycles, mopping the floors, and eventually working on the sales floor helping customers. Little did I know that I’d continue my family’s legacy there…,” said Schaefer.
