Man Gets 192 Years for Ken Caryl Carjacking, Kidnapping
Jeremy Scott Hackbarth was sentenced as a "habitual criminal" for his role in the carjacking and kidnapping of a couple in 2017.

GOLDEN, CO – A man who was found guilty of carjacking and kidnapping a couple he met in a Ken Caryl bar has been sentenced in Jefferson County District Court.
Jeremy Scott Hackbarth, 34, was sentenced to 192 years in prison after a judge added violence and "habitual criminal" sentencing measures to his conviction for ten felony counts, the Jefferson County District Attorney's office said. Hackbarth had six prior criminal convictions, prosecutors said.
Hackbarth was found guilty in August after a six-day trial of kidnapping and robbing a young couple they met at a Ken Caryl sports bar in September of 2017 with co-defendant Casey Daniel Cleveland, 33. Cleveland pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 26 years in prison for his role in the incident.

Prosecutors said on Sept. 17, 2017 two men befriended a male and female couple at the Mirage sports bar in the 8400 block of Coal Mine Avenue, then asked them for a ride home, an arrest affidavit said. But as they drove southbound on Wadsworth, after midnight, Cleveland pulled a knife and put it to the male driver's neck. Hackbarth reached forward and put his arm around the female’s neck and threatened to kill her, then choked her repeatedly, police reports said. The two men bragged that they were gang members belonging to the "211-Crew."

The woman jumped out of the moving car at Wadsworth and Chatfield, as it traveled around 50 miles per hour, police said. The two men threatened to shoot the man, and dumped him from the car, stealing it, the arrest affidavit said. Later, sheriff's deputies were able to take them into custody.
