• Forgotten Colorado History: The College Rivalry That Involved Dynamite, Kidnappings, and Explosions (kekbfm.com) — Golden’s own Colorado School of Mines once had a college rivalry so intense that students set off dynamite in Denver and staged retaliatory kidnappings back in 1919. The story traces how Mines and DU escalated their pranks from noisy stunts in Golden’s streets to explosions and humiliating public parades before finally calling a truce.
   

• An Illuminated Fire Run (goldentoday.com) — Golden residents can look back 103 years to a dramatic 1922 “illuminated fire run,” when the Golden Fire Department raced a decorated firetruck down darkened Washington Avenue to a bonfire at 9th Street. The stunt showcased firefighting skill, complete with rapid hose hookups, moved cars, and an open house at Central Fire Station where guests polished off hundreds of donuts and gallons of coffee.
