Driver Who Caused Massive Lakewood Crash In 2019 Begins Trial

Rogel Lazaro Aguilera-Mederos faces 41 charges, including assault and vehicular homicide, in relation to the crash that killed four people.

LAKEWOOD, CO — The trial for the Texas trucker who lost his brakes, causing a 28-vehicle crash on Interstate 70 that killed four people and injured six others, began Friday, The Denver Post reported.

Rogel Lazaro Aguilera-Mederos faces 41 charges, including assault and vehicular homicide, The Denver Post reported. He could face decades in prison if convicted of all charges, according to the newspaper.

On April 25, 2019, the semitrailer that Aguilera-Mederos was driving "barreled down Interstate 70 at speeds topping 85 mph, swerving and forcing other vehicles off the road before running into standstill traffic under a bridge near Colorado Mills Parkway in Lakewood," the Denver Post said.
