Free Garden Mulch From Lakewood's Tree Trimmings

Pick up free mulch made from Lakewood's summer tree trimming the weekend of Sept. 22-23.

LAKEWOOD, CO – It may be summer weather, but gardeners know it's time to think about getting plots ready for fall and winter. Lakewood residents can pick up free mulch made from ground-up Lakewood tree limbs the weekend of Sept. 22-23 at the City Greenhouse, 9556 W. Yale Ave. Staff will even help with a loader.

According to organizers, the mulch from chopped down trees and bushes has been reground, which makes for "excellent ground cover in shrub and tree beds."

Gardeners use mulch to help landscaped areas retain water, which reduces the need for watering in drought conditions. Mulch keeps soil temperatures consistent, like a warm blanket which helps trees and shrubs establish root systems. Gardeners also use it for a weed barrier and a landscaping element.
