The refreshed park is located at 6677 W. Florida Ave. and now includes a contemporary playground. The park's games court has:

In addition, the park has upgraded trails, picnic shelters and seating.

The park's remodel was designed through the eyes of the next generation of planners with help from multiple public meetings to gather input during 2016. The city partnered with students from CU Denver's College of Architecture and Planning through the Hometown Colorado Initiative, which provides technical support and guidance for large "livability" projects.

Three students were contracted with the city to finish the design with help from the city's landscape architect. Lakewood's city council voted to include renovations in the 2017 budget.

Saturday's festivities, starting at 10:30 a.m., will feature Lakewood Mayor Adam Paul, as well as Ward 3 city council members Pete Roybal and Mike Bieda. The party will morph into a Ward3 community picnic from noon to 2 p.m.

Free parking can be found at Lasley Elementary School, 1401 S. Kendall St.
