Man Killed After Threatening To Shoot Lakewood Officers: Police
A man shot someone and then threatened officers, Lakewood police said.
LAKEWOOD, CO — Lakewood police shot and killed a man Tuesday after he threatened officers with a gun, officials said.
Officers were called around 3:30 a.m. to an area near West 5th Avenue and Benton Street after they received a report that shots had been fired.
Witnesses said a man shot someone and took off; however, when the officers arrived, neither the suspect nor the person who was shot could be found, police said.

The victim was later found at a hospital, suffering from a gunshot wound. His condition was not known.
Officers searched for the suspect and found him near West 3rd Place and Depew street. Officers tried to get him to drop his handgun as he threatened to shoot them, police said.

The man raised his gun at police, and he was shot by a sergeant, police said.
Officers began CPR on him but he succumbed to his wounds and died, police said.
A handgun was found nearby, police said.
The identity of the man has not been released. He's described as a white man in his early 20s.
The Jefferson County Critical Incident Response Team will investigate the shooting. Per department policy, the Lakewood sergeant who shot the suspect will be placed on administrative leave pending an internal investigation.
