What's Coming To Lakewood Arts Center In October?

Performances range from Jazz to cutting edge classical music to African a cappella and classic lit.

LAKEWOOD, CO – The Lakewood Cultural Center has filled the October calendar with drama, music and dance. Programs this month range from African Dance and music to a free jazz concert and a dramatic performance of a legendary American novel.

The season starts this weekend with Mirari Brass Quintet on Friday, Oct. 5. The group pushes the boundaries of brass music, performing unexpected songs and sounds. Mirari Brass travel and perform internationally.

Tickets start at $20

Further pushing the boundaries into the unexpected is the string quintet Sybarite5, performing Thursday, Oct. 11. Expect to hear eclectic repertoire from "Bowie to Radiohead and Akiho to Assad."

A FREE performance by the United States Army Jazz Ambassadors takes place Thursday, Oct. 18. Formed in 1969, this 19-member ensemble is one of the finest big bands in the world today and has received great acclaim at home and abroad performing America's greatest original art form, jazz. Based in Washington D.C., the band tours thousands of miles each year to promote patriotism and good will for the U.S. Army through free public concerts.


Tickets are free, limit 4.

Literature comes to life with Call of the Wild: Illustrated Edition on Thursday, Oct. 25.

Recommended for ages 9 and up, see Jack London's classic take about sled dog Buck through performance, storytelling and projected illustrations.

Tickets start at $7.

Nobuntu: From Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, this five-member female a cappella ensemble leads a special African Dance Workshop the afternoon of Saturday, Oct. 27, followed by a concert that evening. Nobuntu performs a fusion of Zimbabwean-rooted music, Afro jazz, gospel and crossover. Nobuntu’s concerts are accentuated by traditional colorful clothing, authentic dance movements and hand percussion instruments.

Dance workshop tickets are $30, Concert tickets start at $20.
