Barnes Group To Close Bristol Office Building, Cut Staff
The company notified the state Department of Labor of its plans on March 7.

BRISTOL, CT — Barnes Group Inc. notified the state on Friday it plans to close its corporate office building at 123 Main St. in Bristol by December and lay off 28 employees.
The company announced its plans in a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN) notice to the state Department of Labor.
According to the March 7 letter, the closure is expected to be finalized by Dec. 31.

Approximately 28 employees will be separated from the company as a result, according to Dawn N. Edwards, senior vice president of human resources for Barnes.
The layoffs will happen in waves, including on March 31, June 30 and Sept. 30, with all employees working there to be laid off by the end of the year.

The impacted employees are not subject to any collective bargaining agreement, according to the WARN notice.
Barnes manufactures precision components for various industries, including the aerospace and medical sectors, according to its website. The company has about 5,600 employees worldwide.
Back in January, Barnes announced the completion of its acquisition by Apollo Funds in a $3.6 billion transaction. At the time, Barnes President and CEO Thomas J. Hook said the acquisition would help broaden its product offerings and “create new opportunities for increased growth.”
