Beloved CT News Anchor Discusses Why She's Been Off Air
Fox61's Erika Arias has been off-air for a few weeks. She just disclosed why.
CONNECTICUT — As Christmas presents go, this one is unique.
Fox61 news anchor Erika Arias has been off-air for the past several weeks, and in a Facebook post this week, she disclosed why.
"Morning friends! Sorry I didn’t do this update sooner: I got a new hip for Christmas!" Arias wrote. "I’ve been focusing on recovering with rest and [physical therapy]."

She said that she is doing well and no longer using a cane or walker, and will be back at work in a couple of weeks.
"Thank you for all the kind messages, I will try to respond to them all— off to PT now!" Arias wrote. "Have a great day!"

The Laurel was the first to report about her upcoming return to the airwaves.
Arias joined Fox61 in 2008, and she anchors the news outlet's morning news program from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.
She got her start with WPRI-TV in Providence, Rhode Island, and she has worked at stations in Las Vegas and Southern California, and has freelanced for the Fox News Channel.
In 2014, Arias was named one of Connecticut Magazine's Top "40 Under 40," and she even has a small Hollywood acting credit, playing a local TV anchor in the 2005 Sandra Bullock movie, "Miss Congeniality 2: Armed & Fabulous."
Arias is a Massachusetts native, who grew up mostly in California, but has family in Connecticut, according to her Fox61 bio.
She graduated cum laude from Northeastern University, and she is a member of both the Asian American Journalists Association and the National Association of Hispanic Journalists.
