CONNECTICUT — Regular season play has concluded, and more than three dozen high school lacrosse teams from Hartford and Tolland counties are preparing for postseason competition and the ultimate goal of a state championship.

Brackets for the CIAC tournaments were released Thursday morning, with 22 boys' teams and 20 girls' squads from the region qualifying. First-round action takes place Friday and Saturday, and second-round play takes place Monday (girls) and Tuesday (boys), at the homes of the higher seeds.

A total of 134 teams from across the state qualified for tournament play based on winning a minimum of 40 percent of their regular season contests.

As a testament to the growth and popularity of the sport, four divisions are being utilized in the state tournaments for the first time. Boys competed in three divisions since 2006, and the girls followed suit beginning in 2011.

The four girls' finals are scheduled for Saturday, June 8, with a quartet of boys' title games the next day. All championship matches will be played at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield.
