Celebrating "National Days" By Collecting Patch Readers' Favorites

We want your input as to your favorite cold cuts, sons, cheese doodles, dentist and cereal, being celebrated with "National Days" this week.

CONNECTICUT — In addition to traditional holidays such as Thanksgiving, Independence Day, New Year's Day, Hanukkah and Christmas, there are literally hundreds of other special days that most people do not even know about. In fact, not a day goes by that there isn't some sort of special recognition for something, in many cases quite obscure subjects.

The intent of this new column is twofold: to make Patch readers aware of some upcoming days of celebration (I know you're on the edge of your seat waiting to find out when National Sock Monkey Day is), and to give readers the opportunity to tell us their favorites in any particular category.

Those days which generate good response will end with a results story, so be aware that submissions from the public may be used in a Patch article. Also, if a callout asks for a photo, please send non-copyrighted, non-professionally taken pictures. Horizontal photos are requested, as our content management system does not like vertical pictures; it tends to give people lobotomies.

To submit a response, please email tim.jensen@patch.com. We have 74 sites in Connecticut, so I will not be including any answers which are posted on Facebook or Messenger. Direct emails to me are the only way to have a shot at getting your response published. Also please note, not all submissions will be included.

Have fun with this week's initial offerings:

  • Monday, March 3 - National Cold Cuts Day (tell us your favorite kinds of cold cuts, and where you buy them)
    (Scott Anderson/Patch)
  • Tuesday, March 4 - National Sons Day (I'll get this one started - I am so proud of my son Alex - he was third in his Enfield High School graduating class, earned two bachelor's degrees in just three years at Castleton University, graduated Seton Hall Law School with a juris doctor degree, was sworn in as an attorney in New Jersey and now works for a practice in that state. In addition, he is a competitive powerlifter, trains other powerlifters, plays guitar in a rock band and is getting married in May)
    (Anne Marie Jensen)
  • Wednesday, March 5 - National Cheese Doodle Day (name your favorite brand)
    (Tim Jensen/Patch)
  • Thursday, March 6 - National Dentist's Day (who is your favorite area dentist, and what makes them special)

  • Friday, March 7 - National Cereal Day (are you into Shredded Wheat, Cheerios or Honey Bunches of Oats, or are you still a little kid at heart and go for Lucky Charms, Cocoa Puffs, Froot Loops or Cap'n Crunch, whose eyebrows are on his hat, FYI. If you answered yes to the latter, you may want to reference Thursday's question again)
