A 10-year-old boy originally from Connecticut died one month after police in Florida said he was severely abused by two people, according to the Tavares Police Department.

"With profound sorrow, the Tavares Police Department announces the tragic passing of a 10-year-old boy, a victim of unimaginable abuse and neglect at the hands of those who were meant to care for him," police said in a statement on Friday. "This innocent child's life was marked by unspeakable suffering, and his loss has deeply shaken our community and everyone involved in this case."

Police said they are working with the State Attorney’s Office to enhance the charges against Kimberley Mills and Andre Walker, who have both been previously charged in the case.

"We remain steadfast in our commitment to securing justice for this child and ensuring accountability for the heinous acts committed," police said. "Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences go out to all who mourn this irreplaceable loss."

The child's father resides in Bloomfield, Conn., an attorney told Fox 61 TV. Tanya Dorman said the child's father and Mills divorced, and she moved to Florida with the two children to whom she had custody.

Police on Saturday identified the child as Xavier Williams, 10, "who touched the hearts of many," police added.

Police in Florida said Mills and Walker dropped off Kimberley’s "bruised and battered" son at a hospital at 10 p.m. on Feb. 22. The child was initially listed in critical condition but died on Friday, March 21.

When the child was dropped off at the hospital on Feb. 22, Mills was performing CPR on the youth, while a man ran inside to notify hospital staff that they needed assistance, police said. Hospital staff conducted life-saving measures on the juvenile before he was ultimately transferred to a trauma center, police said.

"Both Kimberley and the male left the hospital after learning that law enforcement was responding to the hospital, all while the juvenile was undergoing CPR in the Emergency Department," police said. "Kimberley returned to the hospital after a short period of time with another juvenile in her possession, however the male was not with her."

Walker was later located. Mills is currently charged with two counts of aggravated child abuse, two counts of child neglect, one count of tampering with evidence, and two counts of accessory to aggravated child abuse.

Andre Walker is charged with two counts of aggravated child abuse, two counts of accessory to aggravated child abuse and one count of tampering with evidence.

In a Feb. 28, social media post, police said, "These charges mean that both Kimberley Mills and Andre Walker participated in torturing and abusing these two children."

A GoFundMe page has been created to assist the child's family in Connecticut, according to an aunt.

"His father (my brother) is seeking financial help with medical expenses, funeral and other care expenses for the remaining sibling, after this tragedy," the GoFundMe states. "Our family greatly appreciates the support and prayers that everyone has been giving us at this time, as we navigate this very challenging period. All funds received through this medium will go directly from GoFund Me to the bank account that the father has established for his sons. Please note that only the father will have access to the funds received from GoFund Me. Thank you all for your support and contributions."
