CT Achieves Highest Measles Vaccination Rate In U.S.: CDC

State health officials urge parents to get children vaccinated, with measles cases popping up in nearby states.

CONNECTICUT — The state now has the highest rate nationwide for two-dose measles vaccination, according to data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The state Department of Public Health announced the CDC ranking on Tuesday. Just over 98 percent of Connecticut kindergarten students received measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine in the 2024–2025 school year.

As of July 29, 2025, the CDC reported there have been 1,333 confirmed measles cases in the country so far this year. None of these have been in Connecticut, but neighboring New York and Rhode Island have had cases.

“Our high vaccination rates have helped Connecticut remain one of ten states that has not had a case of measles yet as cases continue to accumulate around the country,” DPH Commissioner Manisha Juthani said.

Juthani urged parents to get their children vaccinated before they go to school, where illnesses can easily spread.

“The proximity of students and highly touched surfaces contribute to the rapid spread of germs and increased risk of illness among students, staff, and their families,” Juthani said.

Education Commissioner Charlene M. Russell Tucker encouraged families to consult with their primary care providers to confirm their children’s immunizations are up to date.

The state also has a website, at ct.gov/getmyvaccinerecord, to get vaccine records, a confidential and free service.
