CT Records $251k+ In Cannabis Sales On Day One
Day one of recreational cannabis sales went smoothly despite high demand. Connecticut recorded more than $251,000 in sales.

CONNECTICUT — Opening day for retail recreational cannabis sales went smoothly Tuesday, with more than $251,000 in reported sales as of 5 p.m.
Sales began at 10 a.m. at seven licensed retailers. Demand was high and lines long as consumers were excited for a day that was years in the making.
“We have had no reported issues at any of our retailers, and we are proud of the successful launch of the regulated adult-use market,” Department of Consumer Protection Commissioner Michelle H. Seagull said in a statement.

Connecticut uses a real-time analytic tracking system to monitor cannabis inventory and sales. Data will eventually be made available on the state website and updated monthly.

Connecticut contracted with BioTrack to handle tracking of product and sales.
“Our technology will empower regulators with the tools they need to ensure a safe and compliant medical and newly-launched adult-use program,” Biotrack Vice President Moe Afaneh said. “We look forward to working with the state and cultivators, processors, and dispensaries now and into the future."
Recreational adult-use cannabis has been legal in Connecticut since July 2021.
Rhode Island and New York began recreational sales slightly earlier than Connecticut did, and New Jersey started sales earlier in 2021. Massachusetts has had retail sales since 2018.
The Connecticut Office of Fiscal Analysis estimates that Connecticut will bring in $20.4 million in tax revenue during fiscal year 2023, the first full fiscal year with sales. Tax revenue is projected to increase to $55.2 million by fiscal year 2026.
