"Rainfall totals of 2 to 4 inches with locally higher amounts, possibly as much as 5 to 6 inches, are forecast across the watch area tonight into Monday," according to the National Weather Service. "The heaviest rainfall is expected to fall late tonight into early Monday morning. The combination of heavy rainfall and the already saturated grounds due to heavier rain over the last week will likely result in streams across the area experiencing rapid rises resulting in flooding along low-lying and flood-prone locations."
Coastal flood warning details
A coastal flood warning is in effect from 10 p.m. Sunday until 6 p.m. Monday for coastal sections of Fairfield, New Haven, Middlesex, and New London counties.
"Peak surge of 3 1/2 to 5 ft will likely be between high tidal cycles Monday morning, according to the National Weather Service. "The timing of windshift late Monday morning into early Monday afternoon will be critical to the coverage and magnitude of moderate coastal flooding. Residents of vulnerable coastal locales should prepare for the potential for widespread moderate flooding (2 1/2 ft of inundation) late Monday morning into Monday afternoon. In addition, heavy rainfall and/or runoff coinciding with the tonight and Monday afternoon high tides will exacerbate street and property flooding issues along the coast and tidally affected rivers of Westchester and southern CT, as well as the Hudson River."

"Storm total rainfall of two to four inches will result in rapid stream and small river rises," according to the National Weather Service. "Areas of urban and poor drainage street flooding are likely as well. Given similar rain totals fell just a week ago, soils remain saturated and rivers remain swollen, yielding the potential for renewed flooding risks."
Wind advisory is in effect from 1 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday.
