'Accumulating Snow' Emerges In Our Forecast: Here's When, New Details Released

It's a good idea to locate your shovel or make sure your snowblower is working, as we may finally see widespread snow in Connecticut.

CONNECTICUT — There is a chance that Connecticut may see its first widespread snow event of the season this upcoming weekend.

The National Weather Service currently puts the odds at 80 percent chance of snow in southern Connecticut this upcoming weekend, while northern Connecticut has a 70 percent chance of snow.

If it snows, it's expected to begin Saturday night and into Sunday before tapering off around noon Saturday. Since the snow chance is still days away, no one has made an estimation of how much snow may accumulate.

WFSB 3 TV Meteorologist Mark Dixon said, "After some model differences yesterday, they’ve come into better alignment regarding a storm moving off the Mid-Atlantic Coast. It’s only Tuesday, so this outlook will be fine-tuned as we get closer to the weekend. But for now, the daylight hours of Saturday are dry. The storm ramps up at night and will impact our Sunday. Could it be all snow? Yes. Could there be a mix or rain for some? Yes. It’s too early to get too specific, but where snow falls… it could be a plowable amount. Precipitation type comes down to the track of the storm relative to Connecticut. The wind will also be a factor, with gusts over 30 mph possible. It appears that precipitation tapers before ending Sunday afternoon/evening." (Watch/read more at WFSB 3 TV).

The National Weather Service in Boston said, "There is the potential for a strong storm to bring rain and/or accumulating snow to #SNE Sat night into Sun. This is a Day 6 forecast & not set in stone. Precipitation type and amounts remain uncertain, but accumulating snow is a possibility."
