Thunderstorms Return To Forecast As Heat Wave Rolls On In CT

Thunderstorms have returned to Connecticut's weather forecast. Here is when the storms are forecast and what to expect.

CONNECTICUT — A heat advisory remains in effect for most of Connecticut on Thursday, as it may feel as hot as 100 degrees in parts of the state.

In southern Connecticut, the heat advisory ends at 8 p.m. Thursday, while it continues until 8 p.m. Friday in northern Connecticut. Friday does appear to be slightly cooler though, but there is a chance for showers and storms on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Neither day appears to be a washout, and the best chance for showers and storms is Friday and Sunday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

"Today is forecast to be the warmest day of the week. Records are in jeopardy, with record warmth forecast inland!" wrote Meteorologist Mike Slifer with Scot Haney.

The last September heatwave occurred in 2018. Some storms are possible in western parts of Connecticut on Thursday afternoon.

"The biggest risk would be strong wind gusts under storms. We are not expecting widespread storm activity, but rather some isolated strong storms that will weaken as they move into and across CT," Slifer and Haney wrote.

More showers and storms are possible Friday afternoon and evening. "A few of them could be on the stronger side and heavy rain is possible under anything that forms," WFSB 3 TV forecasters said.

More rain showers are possible on Saturday, but they are forecast to be very isolated, while there is a better chance for rain showers and storms on Sunday.

And as for Hurricane Lee, WFSB 3 TV meteorologists said it's too early to tell what will happen with the track of the powerful hurricane.
