Original post: Saturday morning is the calm before the expected storm across Connecticut.

Anytime after noon and up until 8 p.m. Saturday there is a chance of severe weather, according to meteorologists.

Southern Connecticut storm impacts

"We expect a round of showers and thunderstorms associated with an approaching cold front on Saturday," the National Weather Service said concerning southern Connecticut. "Some of the storms will likely become severe, moving west to east across the area, occurring from noon to 8pm. There is a slight risk of severe thunderstorms (level 2 out of 5) for the NYC metro, NE NJ, Lower Hudson Valley, and SW Connecticut.

"There is a marginal risk of severe thunderstorms (level 1 out of 5) across much of Long Island and SE CT. The main threat from any severe thunderstorm will be from damaging wind gusts in excess of 58 mph. There is also a risk of an isolated tornado and isolated occurrence of hail (~1 inch diameter) within the slight risk area. Minor urban/poor drainage flooding possible with a localized flash flood risk," the National Weather Service said concerning southern Connecticut.

Northern Connecticut storm impacts

A special weather statement has been issued for northern Connecticut.

"A cold front brings potential for scattered severe thunderstorms today to interior southern New England. Thunderstorms may begin to pop-up across eastern New York, along the border with Connecticut and Massachusetts early as 12-2pm. There after is prime time for storms to build develop, between 2-6pm, across the interior of southern New England. Expect thunderstorms to weaken as the line shifts to the I-95 corridor between 7-10pm."

"Thunderstorms will have the potential to produce straight-line damaging winds, hail, localized flash flooding in urban areas or locations of poor drainage, frequent lightning, and a lower risk of tornadoes," the weather service added concerning northern Connecticut.

WFSB 3 meteorologists predictions for Saturday's stormy weather

WFSB 3 TV meteorologists said, "We’re specifically focused on the window between 1 and 8pm. During that timeframe, storms that develop could produce frequent lightning, heavy rain, a damaging wind, and perhaps hail --- as they move from west to east across CT. Isolated rain totals over an inch could cause poor drainage flooding, especially in western CT Within the region, storms could rotate leading to the possibility of an isolated tornado. Before the front arrives, expect a muggy day with highs between 80 and 85." (Read more at WFSB 3 TV).
