CT Weather: Tornado, Severe Thunderstorms, Flash Flooding Concerns All Possible Thursday

A timeline for heavy rain, high winds, and potential flash flooding has been released by meteorologists.

Storms on Thursday in Connecticut are expected to bring heavy rain, damaging wind gusts and even the potential for flash flooding and an isolated tornado, according to forecasters.

Timeline of concern

The National Weather Service predicts there will be another round of storms Thursday afternoon, particularly between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m., some of which will be severe.

WFSB is also predicting the potential for “strong to severe storms” today, due to a stalled boundary to the south moving northward as a warm front.

The station is calling Thursday a “First Alert Weather Day” and says rain will be heavy at times and could impact both the morning and evening commutes.

Storms may be strong-to-severe

“We’ll be monitoring the threat for strong to severe storms,” WFSB reports. “Currently, the level 1 risk from the Storm Prediction Center encompasses the entire state. While the greatest concern will be damaging wind gusts, an isolated tornado can’t be ruled out.”

Rain is expected to end later tonight, with the state getting an additional one to three inches of rain by the time it clears out. Some communities impacted by storms could get even more precipitation, according to WFSB. The amount of rain could lead to poor drainage issues and even flash flooding, the station reported.

A cold front will impact the state come Friday, bringing increasing sunshine and less humidity, followed by dry weather for the weekend, WFSB predicts.

The best days for outdoor activities will be Friday through Sunday. The Durham Fair runs today through Sunday.
