Snow Accumulation Estimates Released For Us: Here's How Much To Expect And When

Snow accumulation estimates have been released for Connecticut. Here are the specifics on when the snow will begin and how much to expect.

CONNECTICUT — The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for the entire state except for the immediate coast as a major winter storm is forecast for Saturday night and Sunday morning.

Up to 12 inches of snow is possible in parts of northern Connecticut, while the immediate coast or I-95 corridor towns will see lesser amounts due to rain and sleet possibly mixing in. Originally, coastal towns were forecast to see 1–3 inches of snow accumulation, but late Thursday, the weather service bumped that figure to 3 to 6 inches.

A winter storm watch has been issued for all of Hartford, Tolland, Windham, and Litchfield counties, while a winter storm watch has also been issued for inland sections of Fairfield, New Haven, Middlesex and New London counties.

The snow is forecast to begin late Saturday night and continue through the morning hours on Sunday. Rain and sleet may mix in at the coast but original snow estimates are increasing here.

WFSB 3 TV chief meteorologist Mark Dixon said, "For now, precipitation begins after sunset Saturday, ramping up at night. Could it be all snow? For communities away from the shoreline, yes. We’re forecasting 6-12″ with locally higher amounts. Could there be a mix? Yes, perhaps along the shoreline. Taking this into account, we’re forecasting up to 6″ along the I-95 corridor. Regardless, this will be a high impact storm that produces a plowable amounts of snow making for difficult/slick travel. (Read/watch more at WFSB 3 TV).
