CT Weather: Snow/Ice Accumulation Lead To Winter Weather Advisory

And "plowable snow" may be in the upcoming President's Day weekend forecast for Connecticut. Here are the new details.

CONNECTICUT — A winter weather advisory has been issued for most of Connecticut except towns along the I-95 corridor in southern Connecticut for Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

The story isn't about snow accumulation as only an inch or so of snow is forecast, but the major concern is a period of icing which may impact Thursday morning's commute for much of the state.

"Well after sunset, toward 10pm, expect scattered snow showers," said WFSB 3 TV meteorologists. "An inch or so of snow could add up before a transition to an icy mix after midnight, as milder air works in aloft. Sleet and a glaze of ice from freezing rain is possible. The mix will then go over to rain, from south to north, by sunrise.

What about the weekend snow, ice, mix?

"Saturday is initially dry but recent trends indicate snow starts sooner… now by midday!" said WFSB 3 TV meteorologists said. "There will likely be a period of time where we’ll see measurable, perhaps plowable snow. After sunset, toward midnight, snow transitions to a mix from south to north as temperatures rise overnight.

"By sunrise Sunday, we anticipate a transition over to rain across southern/coastal CT (if not farther north). Sunday, there is a lot of uncertainty surrounding type of precipitation as the day moves forward. The GFS is painting rain and snow; however, the Euro is going with a warmer/wetter scenario. We’ll be monitoring trends over the coming days; regardless, heavier rain in tandem with snowmelt Sunday could lead to nuisance type flooding." (Read more at WFSB 3 TV).
