CT Weather: Up To 10 Inches Of Snow Accumulation Forecast Sunday

Winter storm warnings have been issued in advance of a significant snowstorm, which will begin to impact CT Saturday night.

CONNECTICUT — Snow is on track to begin between Saturday night and before the precipitation ends late Sunday morning, up to 10 inches of snow accumulation is expected across Connecticut.

Most of the state is in the 6 to 10 inches of snow category. The bulk of the precipitation is expected to remain snow.

"So, as snow begins to fall Saturday night, it becomes steady and at times will be moderate to heavy!" said WFSB 3 TV meteorologists. "Snowfall rates (at times) could exceed 1″per hour! Snow continues Sunday morning through the pre-dawn hours. While, initially, some mixing looked possible along the immediate shoreline, the current storm track favors mostly snow. Snow will wind down in the mid to late morning hours. Totals are expected to be between 6 and 10″ statewide!

And not to look too far ahead, but more snow is in the forecast next week. There is a chance of snow on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

"Monday looks dry and bright with temps running several degrees below average. Tuesday, clouds will increase as another storm system develops. Snow is expected starting Tuesday night, lasting into Wednesday morning. Given the commute impacts Wednesday, we have issued a *First Alert Weather Day*. We’ll be monitoring this very closely. Beyond that, Thursday may feature another chance of snow across CT. The active pattern continues!" said WFSB 3 TV meteorologists. (Read more at WFSB 3 TV)

Here are the new forecast details for southern Connecticut via the National Weather Service:

A winter storm warning is in effect from 5 p.m. Saturday to 11 a.m. Sunday. Total snow accumulations between 5 and 7 inches. A light glaze of ice is also possible.

Saturday: A 40 percent chance of snow after 4pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 34. Wind chill values between 25 and 30. Light and variable wind becoming southwest around 5 mph.

Saturday Night: Snow before 1am, then snow and sleet between 1am and 4am, then snow likely, possibly mixed with freezing rain after 4am. The snow could be heavy at times. Low around 29. Wind chill values between 20 and 25. Southeast wind 5 to 8 mph becoming northeast after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Little or no ice accumulation expected. New snow and sleet accumulation of 4 to 8 inches possible.

Sunday: Snow and freezing rain likely before 10am, then a slight chance of rain and snow after 1pm. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 37. Wind chill values between 20 and 30. Northwest wind 8 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Little or no ice accumulation expected. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Heavy snow possible. Total snow accumulations between 5 and 8 inches possible.

Saturday: A chance of snow after 5pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 35. Light and variable wind becoming west around 5 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Saturday Night: Snow, mainly after 8pm. The snow could be heavy at times. Low around 25. Calm wind becoming northeast around 6 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 4 to 8 inches possible.

Sunday: Snow likely, mainly before 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 37. North wind 6 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

A winter storm warning has been issued from 7 p.m. Saturday to noon Sunday. Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 6 and 10 inches.

Saturday: A slight chance of snow after 3pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 28. Northwest wind around 6 mph becoming light and variable in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Saturday Night: Snow, mainly after 7pm. Low around 23. Calm wind becoming northeast 5 to 7 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 5 to 9 inches possible.

Sunday: Snow likely before 1pm, then a slight chance of snow showers after 1pm. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 32. Northwest wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.
